The 2015 Burg Layer Schlossberg Riesling Trocken "VDP Erste Lage" opens with a very clear, flinty/slatey nose of white and tropical fruits, wet clay, stony and iron flavors from the partly reddish and silver-colored Tonschiefer soils. Fermented in a 1,200-liter Stück and bottled in May, this is a very elegant, pure and racy Riesling with piquant slate acidity and well concentrated fruit. This wine is pure, intense and complex and has a rather dancing character that leaves its needles in your palate. An excellent, very promising Riesling for the next 10-12 years.
